Approaches:
The brevity of the lines and repetition of rhymes lends this text to a Phonics activity.
Students have a version of the poem with the lines scrambled and sort them into groups with potential rhymes at the end of the lines.
They then spot words the recognise and begin to interpret some lines of the poem.
They then hear the poem (many versions online) and begin to sort the lines into sequence, noting how the rhymes change their pattern.
When the lines are in the right order they identify the gist of each verse and may begin to translate.
They listen to a reading again and then attempt their own performance.
