Approaches:
(Sorry about the lack of accents, I don't know how to do them on this computer!)
I normally read this story as a one-off, as a treat, but am sure other teachers could be inspired to do more with it!

Rationale:
This is a very sweet story which the children will not know (authentic) and will adore. The language is quite difficult ( I am not a Spanish specialist and had to look a few words up!) but the story is actually very easy to follow with the pictures and appropriate questioning.

Outcomes:
The children will use their deduction skills when you read this story to them and ask them questions like: what is the dragon's name? What is his problem? What is the Spanish word for doctor? Can you spot a colour?

Topics or themes:
Weather (cold/hot); love and friendship.

Grammar:
The past tense in Spanish; good examples of extended sentences.

Strategies:
This story could be used to focus on a certain sound, "o" for example and get the children to write as many words as they can with that sound in it.

How much time required:
20 minutes to a lesson
