Approaches:
I want to share this straightforward story with a class and have the children join in with the names of the 2 characters whenever they come up as they really are the focus of the book. A couple of pupils can even act it out as we read it out loud! I love the twist at the end when the 2 bump into each other and their names change as they fuse with each other!!
Rationale:
This book appealed to me because it made me think of an activity which I have seen done before where the children use, in any language, the names of 2 animals to make a new one up and draw it in 2 halves…what better lead up to this activity than this book?
Outcomes:
The children will not just be able to come up with one or 2 new animals though: they will be able to use the book to adapt and write a whole story about 2 animals! The names of the animals can also, as in the book, include part of adjectives in French, which will make the activity even more challenging!
Topics or themes:
This can be used in a unit on animals.
