Approaches:
The children need to listen carefully and look at the illustrations closely so they can make out what is happening in the story.
On second reading, they can join in with the repetition of "fatigué, ronfler" at the beginning and "bonne nuit" at the end. In the middle of the story, the reader can stop and do an action every time "loup" is said so that the children join in and say it for them. You can split the class in 2: half the class is the hunter and repeats what he says (or reads it if you have a visualiser), the other half is the ghost wolf. It is particularly great fun when you get to "mais non/mais si"!
Rationale:
This book is so funny, original and surprising. When was the last time you read a story with a ghost wolf in it? All the characters are lovable so the children will want to read it again and act it out. The language is accessible and the illustrations are lovely and clear. It is an all-around winning story!
Outcomes:
When you have read this story, the children never forget phrases like "j'habite / bonne nuit / mais non / mais si", so it is a fun way of introducing useful basis phrases. There are also some much more challenging sentences which do not need to be highlighted when sharing it with little ones but can be exploited with more advanced learners.
The children will love re-enacting the story in groups of 4 or 5: 2 or 3 wolves on the wall, 1 ghost wolf and 1 hunter. It will help practise their speaking skills.
