Approaches:
This is a beautiful story of hope written and illustrated by a Japanese lady: a chick who can't do what other chicks do but finds its purpose in life... or death?!
I want to read it to children and let them work out what the story is about; on second reading they can join in with "lui non" and "mais"; on 3rd reading I would work on the verbs with actions. I would then read each problem with its solution (the chick is very resourceful!).

Rationale:
I want to share it with children because of the beauty of its story and illustrations. It send a strong message that everybody can help somebody.

Outcomes:
The students will be learning some useful verbs and can practise them with games. Then they can think of another animal which may not be able to do what others in its species are expected to do and use the dictionaries to come up with a series of issues and solutions.

Topics or themes:
Weather; resilience (SMSC).

Grammar:
Verbs: infinitives and the structure "réussir à" + infinitive; could be used to introduce the negative form too.

Strategies:

How much time required:
1-2 lessons
