Approaches:
Audio recording of the story – students made cards for the vocabulary that they expected to hear in the story e.g. food, days of the week. They held up their cards when they heard them mentioned in the audio recording.

Foldable booklet – students re-wrote the story themselves using the perfect tense.
Caterpillar board game – students had to say what the caterpillar had eaten when they landed on the different fruits.
7 day food diary – I printed these as booklets.

Students kept a diary of what they ate during one week, including pictures if possible.
They then made their food diary as a booklet with writing in French.
We also created a giant ‘La Chenille Affamée’ book in French as a class.
