Approaches:
This story is perfect to introduce the fact that in France we have a "galette des rois" around 6th January... but is also great if your children know about it already!
The story can be read to the children who will act it out. The French in it is quite advanced and they will only be able to join in with odd selected phrases like "c'est prêt!", "une part pour..". It is more of a cultural story.
Vocabulary relating to the galette, like "tirer les rois", can be extracted and recorded.
There is even a recipe at the end... so why not make one with or for your pupils?

Rationale:
This story shows you how to make a "galette des rois" and it is also great to tell the children about the traditions: "fève" inside the galette, the queen or king chooses their king or queen, the youngest member of the family hides under the table and without looking decides which piece of galette is for whom (this is in case the person cutting it can see the fève!).

Outcomes:
The children will hear more French and will hear about the traditions on France for Epiphany.
