What is literature? What do language teachers do with it?
This wiki hosts resources for the ALL project of supporting language teachers with integrating literature into their schemes of work in national curriculum key stages 2 and 3 (for 7-14 year-olds) as required by the latest version of the national curriculum.
The project continues to collate and publish in due course
- a database of Literature resources selected by Language teachers, and often trialled and evaluated
- examples of the activities they use alongside the ‘Literature’
- background, strategies, reference links and practical advice
During the life of the ALL project workshops and seminars have been held and included these questions discussed by colleagues:
What sort of Literature is relevant to our pupils at different ages?
Traditional verses, rhymes, songs?
Simple stories?
Poems?
Extracts from stories, novels, longer texts?
Why are they relevant?
What aspects of these texts could teachers exploit?
What other sorts of authentic texts should we introduce our learner to?
Songs?
Adverts?
TV clips?
Magazine articles?
News articles?
Etc.?
Why are they relevant?
What aspects of these texts could teachers exploit?
What sort of diversity of approaches can language teachers use in relation to authentic and literary texts?
A digest of notes from this wiki is also published on the ALL website www.ALL-languages.org.uk/Support/Themes/Literature
